Neighbourhood Companions / Katten op de Kaart is a project commissioned by Stichting Kapsalon Haarlem supported by Fonds voor Cultuurparticipatie.

For a period I investigated the movements of cats in my own neighbourhood, the Amsterdamse buurt. With the idea that to get closer to my neighbours, pets might be a good way in, since I have a cat myself.

I recorded the movements with GPS trackers and I made portraits of the neighbourhood cats while I interviewed their owners (housemates). The project shows how the routes of the cats crossing the neighbourhood. The animals do not care about fences and whose garden is whose. Who knows, there might be a cat in your garden whose owner you have never met. Stories about the neighbourhood, routes, places, coexisting, where we meet, how we influence each other’s routes.

The final presentation of the project will be in the end of 2025
