I watched a documentary about Rodney Alcala, a serial killer who murderd at least 8 girls in America in the 70’s. The documentary was made to excite the viewer. Intens music, scary voiceovers and vague images of cars and blood. Nothing made me think about the victims. It just entertaint me for about an hour and a half.

I read some more about the killer and found a part of his archive online. The original archive had over two thousand images of naked woman and children made by Alcala. Some of the pictures were made public to see if anyone could identify these girls.
I printed the images and started working with them, still driven by sensation. After a while I discovered something in the backgrounds of the pictures, there was a dresser, a curtain, the purple carpet… The Items showed up in the background of multiple pictures. By using the Images made by Alcala, I tried to reconstruct te rooms that must have been his home. This young man who raped and murderd numerous girls had a room like any other. And only than I realized, this is a real person, not a exciting story. Suddenly I could imagine standing there, on that purple carpet…
